Trump Officially Renames Gospel “Calvinism,” Says It Is A Nickname And The Best Name

President declares Calvinism is the gospel and nothing else, calling it tremendous, ancient, and very strong doctrine.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump signed an executive order Wednesday renaming the Christian gospel “Calvinism,” saying the change was “very historic, very biblical, and frankly something Spurgeon should have gotten credit for sooner.”

The order directs all federal agencies, Bibles with government funding, and White House prayer breakfasts to use the new title. Officials said the change applies only to official usage, though the administration expected “many very strong Reformed people” to adopt it voluntarily.

Trump said he had studied the matter carefully and concluded that Calvinism was simply the best possible name for the gospel.

“It is a nickname to call it Calvinism,” Trump said. “But it is a great nickname. A tremendous nickname. Calvinism is the gospel and nothing else. Believe me.”

Spurgeon famously said, “It is a nickname to call it Calvinism; Calvinism is the gospel, and nothing else,” and argued that preaching Christ and Him crucified requires the sovereign grace of God, justification by faith, and the Spirit’s work.

Trump said the gospel had been poorly branded for centuries.

“People call it the gospel, the good news, the message, the faith,” he said. “But Calvinism is a much stronger brand. Very strong. People love it. They say, ‘Sir, this is the old truth, the strong truth, the truth that Augustine preached, that Paul preached.’ And I said, ‘Exactly. We are going to call it Calvinism.’”

The order reportedly requires that every sermon include justification by faith without works, the sovereignty of God in grace, the electing love of Jehovah, and the peculiar redemption of Christ for His elect.

“Such a gospel I abhor,” Trump said of any other kind. “We are not doing that anymore. We are doing Calvinism.”

At press time, the administration was reportedly considering whether to rename the Great Commission “The Great Calvinist Commission.”
